Donald Cerrone’s “super bad infection” delays UFC fight with Robbie Lawler

Perhaps the third time will be the charm for Donald Cerrone and Robbie Lawler.

The two mixed martial artists were scheduled to fight July 8 at UFC 213 in Las Vegas, but Cerrone wrote on Instagram Thursday that he’s battling a blood infection that will cause the fight to be rescheduled. It is the second time in which their matchup has been delayed.

“Let everyone know this is not an injury,” wrote the Colorado-native Cerrone. “But a super bad infection in my blood. 7 days of IV and I’ll be back at it. Working on getting the fight rescheduled.”

Cerrone (32-8) and Lawler (27-11) were originally slated to fight last November at UFC 205, but Lawler pulled out. Cerrone instead fought Jorge Masvidal at UFC on Fox in Denver last December, losing via technical knockout.

Lawler last fought in July 2016, losing the UFC welterweight title via knockoout to Tyron Woodley.
